Who can apply
- Your project comes from an approved Colorado research institution or federal lab.
- Your work brings an advanced technology closer to market. Basic research is excluded.
- Your lab or research institution must supply non-state matching cash. Its transfer office starts the grant process.
What you need to fund
You need at least $1 in matching cash for each $3 requested from the state. A $150,000 request needs $50,000 in cash. Donated time or goods do not count.
Check the funding terms ↗Your next step
Ask the transfer office when it needs your plan. The next OEDIT round is set to open January 4, 2027. Your own review may need to start before then.
Start with OEDIT ↗Prepare before you apply
- Speak to the transfer office first. It sends the first-stage form and may set an earlier deadline.
- Set out the research plan, team, budget and source of matching cash. Use the grant forms supplied.
- Explain how the work brings a product or service closer to market. Basic research does not qualify.
What to watch
- Some research bodies get a share of the funds and make awards through their own review.
- You must show where matching cash comes from and that it is committed. State funds cannot count, even if passed through another body.
- Joint bids or projects that span more than one advanced industry may qualify for a higher cap.
Our reading of the fit
Start with the research body. Forming an LLC does not let a business apply for this grant on its own.
