This tool explains filing routes. It does not decide where you must register or how your business will be taxed.
Could a person act as your agent?
The person must be over 18. They must live in Colorado or have a usual place of business here. They need a current Colorado driver's license or ID, or must pass the state's other residency check. They must agree to the role and give a physical Colorado address.
A usual place of business must be open during normal business hours. The agent must be able to accept papers there in person. We do not ask for ID numbers or proof of address on this site.
Check the individual-agent rules ↗When a service can help
A company can accept legal papers and send them to you. Check how it sends notices, what the address can be used for, and what you pay at renewal. Hiring an agent does not make every business address private or replace other filings.
A company that acts as your agent must be in good standing. It must have a usual place of business in Colorado. If formed in another state, it must also have Colorado approval to do business here.
Read the state's agent requirements ↗Changing your current agent
Get the new agent's consent first. You can change the agent details in your periodic report or file a Statement of Change. Check the state record after you file. Arrange the handover before you end the old service.
Find the form for your existing business ↗Applying for a grant?
Forming an LLC or paying for a registered agent does not qualify you for funding. Check the grant's business-stage and timing rules before you spend.
